Presenting visual and performance art in unexpected public spaces.

DAVID MATTESON & BETSY JOHNSON

Rick Scott is My Hero

This public performance exaggerates the absurdity of real political events by selling that absurdity back to the population in the form of a legitimate political gesture. This satirical political campaign was inspired by the elimination of the term “climate change” from the entire state of Florida, following news discovery that Governor Rick Scott “banned” the use of the term from the Department of Environmental Protection’s communications. RSMH raises questions about the power of language and its place in the political process, aiming to promote greater civic engagement and awareness, particularly regarding climate change.
