MASAMI KOSHIKAWA

Self-portrait as Golden Butterfly Woman

In this performance the audience is asked to apply golden origami butterflies to her white costume, turning the mediating woman into a living statue. The origami repents healing. It is a gesture of mutual peace and harmony. Koshikaw uses butterflies as a universal symbol of transformation to bridge the gap between Western and Eastern artistic sensibilities, depicting the sensation of being “in between”.
