By hanging pieces of ribbon from an awning on East Market Street, Free Now! takes a look at the ways color, luminescence, and touch can create a more intimate understanding of our urban environments. A strong aesthetic and emotional effect is created by the repetition and play of the ribbon installations. Injecting this harmless play into our environment allows for greater likelihood of future success in this direction.
While Steckbauer is foremost a visual artist, she is also the founding director of the experimental project space, The Wand in Berlin, a member of ƒƒ and Secondary Narratives, and a freelance writer for Berlin Art Link.
