55 Years of Change is a 3⁄4 mile walking tour of drawings placed between Elm Street and Bennett College, a historically black women’s college where Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke in 1958. The tour features drawings by Bennett students in Harry Swartz-Turfle’s drawing class. The drawings explore the social, political, technological, and architectural events and structures that have changed in 55 years. The drawings will be removable and free to the public.
Harry Swartz¬-Turfle is an artist and writer based in North Carolina. He received his MFA from UNC¬G and studied painting at the New York Studio School. The students at Bennett College who produced the drawings are not art majors but have chosen drawing as an elective.harrylandia.com
