The Most Tolerant Courtyard in St. Petersburg is a performance-mystification. The artist guides visitors on a tour of the courtyard, discussing the broad-mindedness of its inhabitants and how concretely this is manifested. Visitors watch small groups of actors in various corners of the courtyard acting out their stories, hear local residents and immigrants teach each other their native languages and elsewhere see young people swapping clothes, etc.
A St. Petersburg artist, art historian, and participant in the first and second major Moscow International Biennial for Young Artists; “Stop, Who Goes There?,” the Amsterdam Biennial, and the “Izolenta (Electric Tape)” festival, Olga Zhitlina is also currently a graduate student at the Repin Academy of Fine Arts. Zhitlina created two projects for the Art Prospect Festival which address some of the most important and complicated issues in Russia today.
